Summer on the Cuyahoga offers a flexible hiring schedule to meet the needs of our employers. Our site opens for postings in October, and employers can post positions through early April. Your postings will go live on campuses immediately, and SOTC will work with career offices to promote your opportunities most effectively among students. We recommend that employers post internships by December 1st and confirm hiring decisions by March 31st. Employers are welcome to contact SOTC if a different schedule better fits their intern recruitment needs.

  • SOTC staff travels to campuses to promote SOTC, its employers and Northeast Ohio (NEO).
  • October 2017: Employers may begin posting job descriptions to the website.
  • First week of November 2017: Website goes “live” on campuses and students can begin submitting applications.
  • Employers will be notified via e-mail when a student applies, and you are encouraged to acknowledge their application within a week of receiving it. Automated website features can be used to inform students of their status (“In Review”, “Make Offer” or “Decline”).

January and February

  • Students continue to apply for positions, employers continue to interview students and may extend offers at any time. All offers should be submitted through the website on the Employer tab. Students are asked to respond to offers within 48 hours so that employers can proceed with the hiring process.

  • Employers are encouraged to conclude all interviews and extend employment offers. All of the schools will have spring breaks staggered throughout March so it may be difficult to reach students during these days. It is highly recommended that all offers be finalized by March 31st.

  • Welcome packets and registration materials emailed to all confirmed student participants.
  • Students complete and return to SOTC the registration materials.

  • SOTC hosts an Employer luncheon during which employers meet one another and discuss internship best practices. Employers send individuals who will be supervising the interns to an information session to finalize details for the summer.
  • Employers contact students to share information about travel to work, dress code, work hours, employment expectations, etc.

  • Students move into housing at Cleveland State University on Saturday, June 2nd (U Chicago students arrive the weekend of June 9th), and the first day of work will be Monday, June 4th. If employers need interns to begin prior to June 4th, you can coordinate an alternate schedule with the student and SOTC.
  • Opening reception for employers, interns, alumni and other SOTC partners will be held on Tuesday evening, June 12th.

  • Students continue working while enjoying a wide variety of SOTC events.
  • Employers will receive SOTC’s weekly newsletter that reviews the program’s goings on, and you are invited to join us at any events that interest you.

  • The Closing Reception for the SOTC community will be held on Wednesday, August 1st and the last day of work for many interns will be Friday, August 3rd. If employers need interns to work beyond August 3rd, you can coordinate an alternate schedule with the student and SOTC.
